Review

Happy 21 months to Sebastian!!!

I no longer see a baby when I look at him. Instead I see the emergence of a young, beautiful boy who, just when I think there's no way I could possibly love him more, proves me wrong and I find myself realizing that there are no limits for how much I can possibly love him.

So, with that being said (my typical segue), here is brief review of our month:

- weighs approx. 26lbs, 35" tall
- is no longer sleeping in his crib
- goes pee in the potty and actually tells us when he wants to go
- can hop/bounce and both feet actually leave the ground
- speaks in 3-4 word sentences
- quite efficient at drinking out of a regular cup as opposed to his sippy cup
- sits in a booster chair at the table but prefers to sit in a regular chair without any support
- absolutely loves to be read to and loves to peruse through his books
- using his imagination much more with his play (i.e., makes the Queen in his castle set talk to the horse)
- loves to sing
- no longer sleeping 11 - 11.5 hrs/night...now sleeping closer to 10 - 10.5 hrs. and taking longer naps (still averaging approx. 13 hrs. within a 24 hour period).
- still breastfeeding approx. 2-3x/day (I wasn't going to include this, as I know some will feel that breastfeeding a 21 month old is inappropriate. If you are one of those people, feel free to peruse the links along the right hand side of the blog pertaining to breastfeeding)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few...but if so, I'll just add them as I remember them!

Ciao,
Kim

Celebrating the wonderful person we call dad

On Saturday morning we attended the last class of our Rainbow Music Class. We really enjoyed this class (and I say "we" as Jamie and I alternated taking Sebastian) and were sad that it was our last class, as unfortunately their summer sessions do not fit with my work schedule.

Sebastian has really taken a liking to music and I am not too sure if this interest is par for the course, in terms of child development, or if the music class brought it out in him. Regardless, it's so neat watching Sebastian recognize songs and do his best to sing him. He even makes requests now for us to sing certain songs to them! His favourites at the moment are "Hey Now, Brown Cow" (a Rainbow Songs original), Frere Jacques, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Hello Everybody (another Rainbow Songs original). I'm sure we'll register again for this music class in September...along with Sportsball. Nothing like keeping ourselves busy!!

We then headed to Oshawa to spend the afternoon with our friends Kim and Christa celebrating Griffin's 3rd birthday. It was great being able to celebrate Griffin's birthday with them, as this was the first formal birthday party that Sebastian was invited to, and it was neat watching Sebastian interact with the other little children. Tomorrow (Monday) is actually Griffin's birthday so..Happy 3rd Birthday Griffin!!!

And that brings us to today... Today marked Jamie's 2nd Father's Day. To celebrate the occasion we had a lazy day playing in the yard with Sebastian and enjoying homemade waffles, sausage and fruit for brunch out on the back deck.

Later this afternoon, after the storm clouds had rolled in, Jamie, Sebastian and I went out on the front porch and enjoyed the thunderstorm. Once again I was reminded of how motherhood has put my acting skills to the test...thunder scares the #$%# out of me!! However, despite my own fears we now have a son who starts singing the "Thunder" song (kudos again to Rainbow Songs) whenever he hears thunder and we even danced in the rain!! And you know what...thunder really isn't all that bad when you're surrounded by your family.

Although the day was low-key it really was a nice way to end the busy weekend and celebrate how lucky we are to have Jamie in our lives. He really is a great dad and I know that when Sebastian becomes a man he's going to appreciate and love his dad as much as Jamie appreciates and loves his own.

To all the dad's out there...Happy Father's Day!

Two Posts in One Day!

Just felt a need to add to my previous post...

After Sebastian awoke from his nap this afternoon, in which he was at the kitchen table having his lunch, we could hear the fire trucks coming our way. Whenever we hear the firetrucks coming our way, which they do at least once a day as we live on a street that they use frequently, we run to the front door as fast as we can to catch a glimpse of the truck(s) as they speed on by.

Today was no different, except for the fact that the sirens stopped before they passed by our house. Well, Sebastian and I quickly got ready to head out to find the firetruck and find it we did! It was parked around the corner from our house, thankfully due to a non-emergency situation, and Sebastian got to check the truck out up close and personal. While doing so the firefighter in the front seat waved to him and Sebastian waved back, which was great as Sebastian continued talking about the fireman as we continued on our journey (we actually had a purpose to get out of the house besides tracking down the firetruck - we were on our way to the grocery store to grab items for dinner). Then as the firetruck was leaving the scene they passed us by again and the one firefighter even leaned out the window to get Sebastian's attention and wave to him!

It's days like this that make me enjoy my neighbourhood and Toronto.

And of course, like the blog below, I have to add that Sebastian went in his potty once more before bath tonight!!! I'm so proud of our lil' pumpkin. =)

Good night,
Kim

"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body"

Today Sebastian and I spent our morning at the newly renovated Sir Walter Stewart library. The library has been closed for the past 2 years for renovations and I've been anxiously waiting for it to reopen as it's a much nicer walk than the library at Coxwell and Danforth.

Anyways, I wish I had taken pics of the new space. We loved it!! There is a very cool rocket ship that Sebastian and I sat and read in, a beautiful closed sitting area for small children, computers where you can listen to stories with headphones, colourful chairs and sitting areas, and lots of neat activities. I even purchased a little book bag for Sebastian so that as he gets older he can carry his own books!

It's mornings like this that make me regret having to work...even when it's only part-time!

Hoping everyone is enjoying their day,
Kim

p.s. On a totally different subject, Sebastian has now gone to the potty two more times! He has initiated it both times and just sits on the potty as content as can be. I'm telling myself not to get my hopes up that he's toilet training already, as right now it's probably just the novelty (once he goes pees it's really hard to persuade him to get off the toilet!), but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Potty

Wow. What an exhausting day. After a shopping adventure this morning, in which Sebastian napped during the entire time and thus missed his nap this afternoon, we decided to stay indoors and pass the time reading and playing quietly. At one point Sebastian told me he wanted to go pee...he's never said this before...and he even went and stood at the bottom of the stairs with his hand held out for me to take.

Well, I took his cue and upstairs we went to the washroom. Once there Sebastian did indeed want to strip down and sit on the potty. Once I taught Sebastian the basics of "keep it pointing down at all times!" he just sat there...for a very long time! He'd switch potties every now and again (we have 2, don't ask!) and even attempted to sit on the toilet (for those who asked, he prefers the garage sale find from my parents over the one I bought!).

During this time I read a number of books to him and it was quite cute to see him sitting on the potty perusing a book. I also spent some time signing with Sebastian...I would do the sign for a particular animal and ask him what it was and he knew it! I had no idea that Sebastian actually learned the signs! We always do the sign for an animal, if we know it, while saying the name of the animal so it threw me for a good loop when out of the blue Sebastian started verbalizing the signs back...considering I can't recall him ever doing a sign for an animal.

Anyways, I'm digressing... After 45 minutes of potty hopping and nearly falling asleep myself I told Sebastian I'd be right back. I went into his room to look out of his window and shortly thereafter Sebastian came in saying "mommy pee" with his hand held out for me to take. I told him that yes I knew he wanted to go pee and went back into the bathroom with him.

What I didn't know was that Sebastian went pee! He brought me back in to show me what he did!! And in the potty too! Guess he has a shy bladder like me... Next time, I'll just leave the room sooner!

Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits

On Sunday Jamie decided he was brave enough to attempt cutting Sebastian's hair. I really hated it at first...even did my best to hide the tears in my eyes from Sebastian. However, by the afternoon I was leaning towards liking it and today I think I may like it even better than his old style. As for Sebastian, he loves it. He can't stop feeling his hair and smiling! Too cute! Guess Jamie can now add Barber to his repertoire of skills!
