Special Request...

Jamie requested that I post this. It was taken in September 2007 prior to Sebastian's first birthday.

Busy!!

Things here have been busy as normal. With the warmer weather finally descending down on us and signs of spring popping up everywhere (our tulips have opened!!) Sebastian and I have been busy doing what most kids do... getting dirty!!

Most of our days are spent doing some form of organized activity in the morning (i.e., going to our music class, Gymboree or spending time getting together with other mama's and their babes for a morning of play), followed by lunch and nap and then a romp in the park and/or backyard until it's time for dinner.

Afternoons in the backyard have been fun, even with the deathtrap that is the pond (we are currently in the process of getting rid of the pond and am hoping to get a nice sandbox for Sebastian to take it's place). Sebastian has also been very interested in playing in the gardens. What we've learned is that as much as we love our backyard it's definitely an adult oriented backyard that will need some fine tuning before Sebastian will be able to run amok in it. It also means I'm learning to be less anal about my plants and garden(yes, it's true!). Yesterday Sebastian spent a good hour taking the dirt out of the garden and spreading it along the flagstones. In hindsight we probably should have thought a little bit more about the house and how kid-friendly it was when we purchased it, but for those who know us, we don't subscribe to any of those so-called 5 year plans. But we're taking it in stride...I even bought Sebastian a rake so that he can help me with the garden work... and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll enjoy pulling out weeds as much as I do!! =)

19 Months!

Happy 19 Months to Sebastian! This is one of the two times that Sebastian will be 19 on the 19th. The next will happen on his 19th birthday.

We celebrated the day by going to our Rainbow Songs Music Class in the morning while daddy got his motorcycle out of storage, playing with our neighbours and then spending our afternoon playing with Leah and Morgan before taking a long stroll (Sebastian was napping) in the beautiful afternoon sun. It was a great way to celebrate the day.

Speaking of keeping track of things....

Sebastian put his finger up his nose today for the very first time!! Woo! Woo! Not only has he picked his nose for the first time (there was actually no picking involved...finger inserted straight up the nose, taken out and then inserted again) I have now immortalized the act for all to read on the blog! Now if only next time, if there is one, he'll stay still long enough for me to take a picture!

Surely I'll be rewarded greatly this Mother's Day for this entry alone! Ha! =)

You're Looking at a Legend

After a busy and fun weekend visiting with friends at the end of March our hectic daily bustle came to a grinding halt when both Sebastian and I became sick with colds! I always feel so bad when Sebastian gets a cold because he's not able to verbalize how he's feeling and coupled with the fact that I was ill, it made the week very trying. Luckily for us Jamie was able to take 1/2 a day off last Wednesday to allow me to actually rest. It really makes me appreciate how lucky I am because I know a lot of other mom's who's partners are not nearly as supportive. It also made me reflect on my own childhood... I don't remember my mom ever getting sick. I swear, she must have been Wonder Woman because I know from experience that when I'm all achy and sore, it's very difficult caring for Sebastian when all I want to do is crawl into bed and rest. So mom, thank you.

On a totally other tangent, since we hit the 18th month mark Sebastian's development seems to have exploded. He's now counting, he knows his shapes, he's learning his colours, he's speaking in two-to-three word sentences, he's "reading" his books, playing make-believe with his castle and farm set and is generally just very responsive to what is being said and asked of him. Today he even helped me rake up the leaves in the backyard!! Anyways, it's as if someone has pressed the fast-forward button... Sebastian is just running full steam ahead and we're doing our best to keep up!

And we're not complaining, it's just that it's getting difficult to mark the little things because it seems that he's learning and doing something for the first time on a daily basis. For example, yesterday Sebastian noticed ants for the first time. He just stared at them and at one point he looked quite scared of them scampering around our shed (we were drawing on the shed with chalk at the time). After I explained to Sebastian that they were ants and that we needed to respect them and not hurt them he just stood there and watched them move about. A similar situation occurred over the weekend when Sebastian saw an actual lady bug for the first time. Except with the lady bug, Sebastian started to cry when it went out of his sight! I guess he doesn't find ants nearly as cute looking!

Sebastian is now also singing along with us. His favourite songs are "Roly Poly" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Unfortunately I've attempted to take a video of him singing to share but it's become increasingly difficult to take pictures/videos of Sebastian as all he wants to do is play with the camera. Which is too bad as there's been some really cute moments!

And I almost forgot! Our favourite new game is copying what Sebastian is doing. We started this on Sunday when Uncle Dan was here for dinner. Sebastian was finishing up his dinner and sitting with his arms crossed. For some reason Jamie, Dan and I copied Sebastian and crossed our arms. Sebastian noticed what we did, changed positions and we copied. Anyways, Sebastian started laughing very heartily and continued changing his position to see what we would do. I had tears in my eyes, but not for laughing so hard (although at the time that's what I blamed it on!). I was just overcome with amazement that Sebastian was comprehending what we were doing. I've said it many times before but this kid totally amazes me. He is indeed our little legend! =)
